I CAN'T SEEM TO LOSE WEIGHT, FIND A PARTNER OR JOB I LOVE! HELP!!!

Are you frustrated by not reaching your goals and feel as if you are just spinning your wheels?  What may be getting in the way?  Read on to find out what this is so you can move it out of the way!   


LIMITING BELIEFS  


Beliefs are oftentimes subconscious and run on autopilot.  We live by them without realizing it.  They usually come from different sources such as family, community and culture.  Beliefs by nature are not necessarily limiting.  You may believe that you can succeed in life, which creates wonderful possibilities for you!  However, it is the limiting beliefs that keep us stuck.  For example:


If you believe you can't lose weight then you may never lose weight.

If you believe that you are not lovable, then you do not allow love into your life.


What could life look like with positive beliefs instead?!


If you believe that you can lose weight then you increase the probability of losing weight.

If you feel that you deserve love, then you will tend to find it!


With positive beliefs you can expand your possibilities and reach your goals!  


Consider the following guidance to become unstuck.


IDENTIFY YOUR LIMITING BELIEF

Take note of your goal and what belief may be getting in the way.  For example, if you goal is to find a meaningful career, ask yourself, “What may be getting in the way of achieving my goal?”  You may realize you feel that you don’t deserve meaningful work, or that you aren’t capable of succeeding.


If nothing comes up during this activity, then consider keeping a journal of your feelings surrounding this goal.  This can help thoughts and feelings to surface so you identify your limiting belief. 


REFRAME YOUR LIMITING BELIEF.

At this point you have identified a limiting belief.  You will now reframe it, which means you will give it a positive twist.

  For example:  

“I deserve meaningful work.”

“I am capable of succeeding.”


What you have just done is set up the groundwork for creating an affirmation, a phrase you can repeat often to help you reach your goal. 


CREATE A SHORT AND SWEET AFFIRMATION.

Make your reframed limiting belief short and sweet.  For example:  

 “Meaningful work.”

 “Succeeding.”


Whatever you choose is fine, as long as it make sense to you and inspires you!

  

REPEAT YOUR AFFIRMATION OFTEN.

The more you repeat it the more you will believe it! Consider saying it to yourself with an encouraging tone! This helps you to feel confident that the affirmation will help you!


TAKE ACTION STEPS TO HELP YOU REACH YOUR GOAL . 

Affirmations work best when we take action too. This is very important! 

For example, you may consider seeing a career counselor to help you find meaningful work. 

 

KEEP THE FOLLOWING IN MIND THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS!

.  Be patient with yourself, as this process can take time. Therapy can help you uncover these limiting beliefs. This can be particularly helpful if the affirmation you've created doesn't seem to be helping you. You first may need to do more exploration of what is keeping you stuck.

.  Offer yourself compassion.  Humans are imperfect and that’s ok!  Focus on being kind to yourself and keep growing!


TO RECAP: 

  1. Identify your limiting beliefs.

  2. Give them a positive twist and repeat them often. Set times of day you will say them, such as morning, noon and night.

  3. Give your affirmation an encouraging tone as you repeat them!

  4. Take action steps to help you reach your goals.

  5.  Be patient and compassionate with yourself!  


Beliefs are powerful!  The above action steps can help you dramatically change your life in a great way!
